Although the Last Kingdom has certainly taken artistic liberties, I will forever love David Dawson's portrayal of Alfred, because it was a huge part of what shaped my fascination with the man. Today I have visited Winchester for the first time to see the final resting place of his father and grandfather and to, perhaps, stand somewhere close to where he himself lays, undiscovered. It is safe to say that if it weren't for this show and the books, I would never have learned anything more of Alfred than that he was one of many past kings of a country that is half a continent away from mine.

Watching these types of movies motivate me to become a better man and show gratitude for the way I have things. I know the thing is fictional but we need more movies like this that encourage masculinity among young men. It shows that men back then went through pain, hardship, struggles, starvation, war but they went through it all without complaining or contemplating quitting. Nowadays, most men (not all) aren’t even in the same caliber as them.

It's sad that someone like these two are not around now to remedy the current situation.

He just replies "I have only one more life to take and it is done". Maximus was a man with a plan. He planned everything out to a tee. I also love how every character has something important to say, from Hagen to Juba, to Lucius, to Lucilla, to Quintus, to Commodus, to Cicero, Proximo, and Marcus Aurelius.
